Cultured for College Impact Curriculum

For Grades 6-12

Where Student Development Meets College and Career Preparation

College and career exploration expands beyond thinking about “what students want to be when they grow up.” Students need tools to create a solid plan of action, language to articulate their plan, and the confidence to select courses, internships, and co-curricular activities that align with their longer-term goals.

Here at Cultured for College, we believe students should prep for college, even if they don’t go. Making academic choices, setting goals, seeking apprenticeships, crafting compelling resumes, and attending college and career fairs are all critical to success beyond high school.

The Foundation of College and Career Prep

Personal and Professional Development

Personal and professional development are critical to student success. The Cultured for College Impact Curriculum includes activities and assignments that support student growth and development in group communication, habits of mind, time management, critical thinking, leadership development, etiquette, and professionalism. These skills help build confidence and readiness for success in and out of high school.

This comprehensive curriculum is aligned with the US Department of Labor’s Workforce Readiness Standards, ACT WorkKeys, State ELA & College, and Career Readiness Standards, and utilizes The College Boards’ recommendations for pre-college programming.

How it Works: 5-Step Process with Proven Results

Step 1: Gather Information

One of the most critical steps in ensuring long-term program success is understanding the climate and culture of each school community. We spend the first day of our visit getting to know you, your students, staff, families, and the adjacent community.

Using the Cultured for College Framework, we ask the question: Is your school cultured for college and career success?

Step 2: Strategize & Prioritize

The strategy session is foundational to program success. During this time, our team shares the findings from the needs assessment and works with the school’s thought leaders to determine which Cultured for College Impact curricular components best meet the school or district needs.

During this strategy session, we develop an evaluation model and decide which metrics best illustrate program effectiveness.

We offer a standards-based curriculum that aligns with high school graduation requirements, after-school programming, and summer enrichment opportunities.

Step 3: Organize, Train, & Equip

Utilizing instructional strategies inspired by AVID, we deeply dive into the curriculum’s online resources, hard-copy materials, and best practices for course execution.

During this session, teachers and school counselors learn more about the curriculum, how to implement it effectively, how to support student autonomy, and when to assess for knowledge, skills, and understanding.

Step 4: Student, Parent, and Family Sessions

Student Motivation Session

Inspirationally designed for middle and high school students, this session motivates and connects students with the Cultured for College Model and encourages them to chase their goals.

A few key takeaways from this session include:

  • Making connections that count

  • Personal and professional branding

  • Grinding out excellence and expecting greatness

  • Serve your community

Parents and Family Session

You Matter Most is the perfect session for a parent and family night event and is designed for middle and high-school-age families.

We use this opportunity to connect parents and families with the Cultured for College model and brainstorm ways to increase involvement, encourage students, and support the school's efforts toward a successful college and/or career transition.

Key takeaways from this session include:

  • The importance of community college and university visits

  • How to maximize summer breaks

  • Transitioning your high school senior into a freshman

Step 5: Follow-up Site Visits

We follow up and follow through! The follow-up visits provide an opportunity to reconnect with staff, ensure program implementation, and allow students to practice their new college and career readiness skills.

Through the Cultured for College Experience, students encounter opportunities that inspire excellence and fuel their desire to pursue their purpose with passion, commit to academic fortitude, and seek opportunities for service and leadership.
